Twitter has now launched “Twitter Lite,” a version of the app that only takes up 3MB. Test-marketed successfully in the Philippines, it is now available in the Google Play store in 24 countries across Latin America, Africa, Europe, Asia, and the Middle East.

In addition to taking up so little memory, the app supports offline usage through data caching, and the app’s data saver mode allows users to choose what images to download from their feed in order to save data. It also has features such as ranked Home timeline and GIF search.

The app was formerly available as a web version, but Twitter hopes that by making it available in the App Store, it will attract more users. Although Twitter’s user base is near 330 million, the growth rate of new users has slowed dramatically in the past two years. Perhaps Twitter Lite will be the key to growing their international user base.
