The Facebook “like” button is getting an major overhaul beginning this week. And while the concept of the like feature itself isn't going anywhere, at least any time soon, there will be one very noticeable change: no more Facebook's famous thumbs up button.

Today, we're introducing a new design for both Like and Share to help people share more great content across the web. We're already seeing a favorable increase in Likes and Shares with the new design and will be rolling these buttons out to everyone in the coming weeks.

Embedded on over 7.5 million websites and seen over 22 billion times per day, the Facebook Like button is considered to be “one of Facebook's most valuable brand assets,” according to product manager Ling Bao. So removing the recognizable thumbs up button and replacing it with Facebook’s “F” logo, along with a brighter white-on-blue color scheme and more elegant Helvetica font, is a huge change. And getting a design that works across all websites at different scales and in different browsers is “a herculean task” that took a full six months to complete.

But the end goal is to first optimize the Like and Share buttons for high-resolution screens, and also to make it easier for websites to install them side-by-side in order to drive in more Facebook referral traffic.

How do you feel about the redesign?
