Apple has reported that a record-breaking 9 million 5s/5c iPhones have already been sold after opening weekend –that's 4 million more devices than last year's iPhone 5 launch! Wall Street analysts had made early predictions that sale numbers would likely top 6 million, but Apple smashed through that prediction and broke sale records left and right, proving that the iPhone is still the most popular and in-demand smartphone on the market today.

Based on initial 5s and 5c sales numbers, Apple is anticipating $34 billion to $37 billion in total revenue. In fact, demand was so high during opening weekend that supplies sold out more quickly than even Apple could have predicted (particularly the most popular choice — the gold iPhone 5s). And there's a reason why the new devices are flying off shelves.

The iPhone 5s has some pretty amazing new features, all installed into a remarkably thin and lightweight design. Features include the Apple-designed 64-bit A7 processor, running at 1.3GHz (twice as fast as the A6 in both processing and graphics), an all-new 8 megapixel iSight camera (which includes burst-mode and slo-mo), and an impressive battery life (clocking in at 11+ hours). But probably the most exciting part of the new iPhone is the Touch ID, an innovative way to simply and securely unlock your phone with just the touch of a finger. Unlocking your smartphone with a fingerprint may seem a bit seem gimmicky to some, but it's also highly conducive to laziness. So you can count on plenty of users taking advantage of this feature.

If you're less into specs and more into the overall look of the phone, you'll be happy to learn that both the 5s and 5c also come in a variety of bright colors and are even more sturdy in design, holding up well in drop tests.

Another impressive statistic is the number of iOS 7 downloads that Apple recorded this week. 200 million users have updated to the latest iteration of Apple's operating system since it became available worldwide last Wednesday. According to Apple, this was the fastest upgrade in iOS history.

The wildly successful 5s and 5c launch, along with iOS 7 directly installed onto the new devices, will keep the iPhone a frontrunner as the most popular smartphone this year.
