What do Dulles International, Dubai International and Scotland’s Edinburgh Airports have in common? Tensator’s Virtual Assistant! This new, cutting-edge technology is designed to creates the illlusion of a live person in order to help guide millions of passengers through airport terminals. Through the use of innovative HD projection, the Virtual Assistant provides a unique advertising and instructional platform, and could be the next generation of  digital signage technology in airports and other public arenas.

The Virtual Assistant is designed to keep customers informed and engaged while also providing a bit of entertainment for those waiting in long lines. Airports are a prime example of projection devices keeping the public informed about important airport regulations and other useful information, but Virtual Assistants are not the only type digital displays being used today. Shopping centers are beginning to make use of digital signage technology as well with Flexible Organic LED (FOLED), which uses a projected image onto glass. This has been particularly effective in department store and shop windows.

But that’s not all. Even cities are looking into using projection on public sidewalks and streets to gather information that could be useful to the public. Real-time traffic, flooding, gunshot detection and more can be collected to keep citizens and law-enforcement informed.

What do you think of street digital devices? Do you imagine seeing them next in places like Times Square? Though it’s not exactly the type of technology predicted in movies like “Back to the Future”, we think this is a great step forward for digital information transactions!
