Digital scrapbooking with friends just got easier. As of today, Facebook will be letting your friends contribute to your online photo albums.

Shared albums will come with three privacy settings to choose from: public, friends of contributors and contributors only. And the album creator can share access with up to 50 contributers, each of whom can share up to 200 photos. This also increases the total number of photos that are allowed per album. The previous limit of 1,000 has been raised to 10,000, and software engineers Bob Baldwin and Fred Zhao, who brought the project to life, have already said that number may increase in the future.

This is a great feature for events like vacations, parties, and weddings, where multiple people end up uploading separate albums from the same event. And due to privacy settings on each, it can be frustrating when you don't have the ability to view all photos. Shared albums also give the option to allow contributors to invite others to view photos, which streamlines the whole process of getting pictures to event attendees.

Another consideration for brands would be building shared albums around a particular product so that customers and fans could add their own photos and experiences. This would allow brands to build advocacy networks on their page in a visual way.

How would you use shared albums?
