Social media is not exactly a new avenue for law enforcement, with the Facebook takedown last year in Texas, or the Twitter classes assigned to NYPD officers.  Now, in Norfolk, the police department is partnering with a social network site to fight crime.

The site in question, Nextdoor.com, offers a way yo keep up with your neighborhood, and connect with neighbors and in a private environment, and is currently used by more than 42,000 communities.

The Norfolk Police Department will use the platform for virtual neighborhood watches, safety updates, emergency notifications, and news to further inform residents about their communities.
