ABC News has started a project called GoStream, which will allow any of the company’s field journalists to send video straight from their phone to ABC News, through an app. ABC can then send out the streams to the public at their discretion.
From the viewers point of view, any number of streams will be available during major events, which will air with no delay. Live streaming from members of the public might also be an option in the future.
“From the streets of Ferguson to the Pope’s daily mass, everyone at ABC News now has the ability, using the app LiveU on their mobile devices, to live stream what’s happening on the ground across our digital, broadcast, and Apple TV platforms at anytime from anywhere,” ABC News President James Goldston wrote in a memo to staffers.
GoStream reportedly does not require a significant amount of resources, as only one journalist needs to be hired for the project.
The technology will give ABC News journalists “a powerful new way to incorporate mobile journalism into the news gathering process and provides you all with the opportunity to experiment with different forms of storytelling,” Goldston said in his memo. ” I can’t wait to see where you’ll take us next!”
