Brandon Granger, senior interaction designer for nonprofit and fundraising software company Blackbaud, recently examined 105 nonprofit websites and came upon some interesting data on the effects of a responsively designed user experience.

What Granger discovered was that roughly 44 of the reviewed websites were designed in a responsive manner, and more importantly, these particular sites all had an average donation form conversion rate of 10.09 percent, compared to 7.45 percent for those sites lacking responsiveness. In short, donors were 34% more likely to give to organizations which prioritized a thoughtful, user-friendly approach to their web design. The main reason these numbers are higher is because a responsive design is very accessible on mobile devices – which more and more people are using to access and consume content.

Responsiveness doesn’t guarantee these higher numbers of course, but it does improve the overall donor experience and ensures that you don’t miss out on reaching those on-the-go via mobile platforms. Both should definitely be a top priority for any nonprofit organization.
