Ever wish you could find out who your seatmate would be before boarding a flight?

KLM Royal Dutch Airlines has taken advantage of social media for air travel to allow you to do just that.  Meet & Seat, a new service developed by KLM, lets passengers choose their travel companions ahead of time based on their social profiles, rather than relying on random seating selections.

To see which passengers may be interesting for your network, you only need to share your Facebook or LinkedIn profile on the KLM website. Next you can see other passengers’ profile details and where they will be sitting. You can also choose your own seat.

For those interested in making new business connections, this is a fantastic, innovative way for travelers to expand their network in-flight, rather than simply finding ways to kill time between take-off and landing.

On your way to a conference? KLM’s Meet & Seat lets you find out which passengers on your flight will be going too.

The service is, of course, optional, and all profile details are removed automatically 48 hours after your flight has departed. KLM also states that your profile details will never be shared with third parties or used for other purposes.

Could Meet & Seat be a revolutionary idea for the airline industry? Would you use it?
