Slack has become the standard internal communications app for businesses. Though most people only use its chat function, Slack has much greater potential.

sHere are three tricks that will help you get more out of Slack.

1. Bookmark Important Messages
It’s a pain to scroll back through messages to find something important, so click that the star icon next to an important message in your feed, which will save it for later. Additionally, you can access all saved messages by clicking the star icon at the top right corner of Slack’s landing page.

2. Practice Channel Management
Some channels are more important than others – hence, you can prioritize which channels are the most important by starring them, so they will appear at the top of your queue. Conversely, you can mute channels with too much chatter on them, an action that will consequently de-emphasize these conversations in the menu.

3. Respond Professionally
Slack allows users to react to other users’ posts with emojis. While most reactions are funny or clever, they really do not serve a professional purpose. If you’re going to respond to posts with emojis, keep it related to the task at hand. Pick a set of emojis that let other users know what your progress is and that keep the conversation in the professional realm.
