The Super Bowl is always well known for its humorous and expensively produced advertisements.  This year had some particularly great ads by tech companies that did a great job marketing to their target audience, generating interest in the brand, and inspiring viewers.  Here are 5 of the best and 1 of the worst.

The Best:

5.  Sonos – Face Off

A great representation of the different ways a home can integrate multiple audio systems.  The graphic was visually appealing and Sonos did a good job showing people what exactly what their product is capable of.

4. SquareSpace – A better web awaits

A humorous portrayal of some of the annoying facets of the internet, which clearly communicates the message that SquareSpace wishes to be seen as a peaceful refuge.

3. T-Mobile – No Contract

Using Tim Tebow was a good choice, as the ex-NFL star connected well with the audience by showing his ability to laugh at himself and go no-holds-barred in an entertaining ad.

2. Radio Shack – The Phone Call

Although it was pretty much directly targeted at 30-somethings, this commercial managed to rise past that and make everyone laugh.

1. Microsoft – Empowering

By far the best tech ad of the night.  Even though Microsoft has had some lackluster ads in the past, this particular one is meaningful, hopeful, and encompasses what technology is really about: giving people’s lives more meaning.  Well done, Microsoft.

The Worst:

T-Mobile – We killed the long-term contract

The whole “we are focusing on you, the customer, not our ad” excuse fails in a commercial that airs when all anyone is anticipating are clever, visually impressive ads.  It wasn’t engaging, and the one slightly funny line was missed by everyone who was bored 5 seconds in.
