Facebook isn't cool anymore, according to teens. Results from a Pew Research Center study released today indicate that teenagers are more subdued in when it comes to enthusiasm about Facebook, preferring instead to express themselves on Twitter and Instagram. Why?

The top reasons were 1) too many adults on the site (70% of the 802 teens surveyed said they were friends with their parents) and 2) too much overall “drama”. But just because the numbers show teens may be losing interest doesn't mean they're abandoning the site just yet.

Facebook is still the most popular social site by far, with 94% of teenagers admitting to having a Facebook profile. But Twitter and Instagram are gaining ground. Just 12% of teens had Twitter accounts 2011, a percentage that more than doubled to 26% in 2012. Instagram came in as third most popular among the age bracket, with 11% holding accounts. An impressive statistic for the relatively new social app.

Interestingly, just 5% of those surveyed said they use Tumblr, 3% are on Google+, and a mere 1% on Pinterest.
