Big companies like Google and Apple are both rushing to be the first major player in the “smart home” market, but a small start-up has beaten both of them to the punch, for all intents and purposes.  Wink offers wireless connectivity in home furnishings starting today, at The Home Depot.  The app works as a smart phone-operable hub and remote control for a variety of products from manufacturers such as: Schalge, Kwikset, Honeywell, Dropcam, Quirky, and more.  The app allows for a great deal of customization and control, from changing the thermostat to locking doors and dimming lights.

60 compatible devices are available in over 2,000 U.S. locations as of this very moment, with many more items and locations to come.  Keep an eye on these guys.
