Twitter’s got a new feature that will help you stay on top of the steady stream of content being delivered to your timeline.  The feature is called “while you were away,” and is currently being rolled out to users.  While it isn’t exactly a fully customized Twitter experience, it does point to a possible change in the microblogging service’s user experience.

What this new feature does is take all the top tweets that flew by while a particular user was logged off, and pushes them to the top of their mobile feed.  For the die-hard twitter user, this seems like a useful new way to stay on top of trends and topics, and can offer the same thing to the more casual users as well.

Some criticism is certainly anticipated in the wake of this move, as it appears to be a step in a more Facebook-like direction.  While it certainly remains to be seen how this feature will be received, it does seem like concerns about Twitter becoming too much like Facebook may not be unfounded.
