Google has just released a new app called Motion Stills that acts as a virtual camera operator for Apple Live Photos. The app makes it easy for its users to turn phone videos into gifs.

Using video stabilization technology, Motion Stills freezes the background of a video taken on a phone and loops the action over and over again. Users take a short video, pick the points where they want it to start and stop looping, isolate the action from the background, and then replay as many times as they wish. The app works even without internet access, and once the gif has been created it can be easily shared via messaging or on social media.

The major benefit of Motion Stills is that takes the gif making process (which usually takes a lot of effort) and moves all into one simple platform.

Right now, however, Motion Stills is only available to iOS devices. Google has not yet stated whether it will become available to Android devices.
