Kentucky Fried Chicken has decided to use Valentine’s Day as an opportunity to promote their $10 Chicken Share Bucket. How? By giving every customer who buys the $10 Chicken Share Bucket free scratch ‘n sniff valentines that smell like fried chicken.

The cards feature Colonel Sanders and a variety of corny puns such as “I fell in love the moment I first slaw you,” and “We’re two peas in a chicken pot pie.”

Andrea Zahumensky, KFC US chief marketing officer, says of the valentines:

Some years you have to search high and low for the perfect gift for your Valentine. This year, we decided to make things easy. Skip the candy and go straight for the fried chicken! Grab dinner and some scratch ‘n’ sniff Valentine’s Day cards, and share your love of fried chicken with your valentine.

KFC has also partnered with the GIF platform Tenor to create Valentine’s Day-themed GIFs – and they’re…well… kind of special.

This isn’t the first time that KFC has tried to incorporate the scent of their chicken into their marketing efforts; they also gave away free chicken-scented candles as part of a social media promotion.

What do you think about KFC’s scented valentines? Is it a fun marketing move, or just a little too gross? One thing’s for sure – if you give one to your girlfriend, you better make sure she has a sense of humor first.
