With over 11 million U.S. workers unemployed this month, an increasing number are using mobile to assist in their job search. Any why not? 2013 is, after all, the year of mobile web, with 91% of smartphone owners having their device within arm's reach 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. And when looking for a job is high on the daily priority list, mobile apps just make that task faster and simpler.
Glassdoor, a career and jobs community site, launched a study on the behavior of mobile job seekers. Here's what they found:
- 68% of job seekers use their mobile device to search for jobs at least once a week, with 30% searching more than once a day.
- 3 in 5 job seekers searched for jobs on their mobile device in the past year.
- 54% have used mobile to read company reviews
- 52% have researched salary information from their smartphone
- 46% use job alerts sent via SMS text.
- 1 in 4 job seekers are deterred from applying to a job if the company’s career site is not mobile optimized (take note, employers!)
Mobile apps and search were once just optional extras for traditional websites, but they are quickly taking the driver’s seat when it comes to web traffic. And that includes the job search.
