facewash facebookStories abound worldwide of Facebook embarrassments.  Facebook posts might get you fired, broken up with, or just plain ruin your reputation. But fret not!  Facewash to the rescue!

Facewash is an app that, oddly enough, was developed during a University of Pennsylvania “Hackathon”.  Its purpose is to scan your Facebook account for predefined “dirty” items and give you the option of deleting or hiding them.  You can use a default list of “dirty” terms or create your own.

The need for Facewash arose due to Facebook’s Timeline and new Graph Search updates when things that were previously hidden based on their extreme difficulty to reach are now readily available with a few clicks.

In the digital era, having a professional looking Facebook profile is key to the job hunt or even just keeping a job you already have.  CIO.com points out that many people who felt like they had job security may find themselves out of work in this bad economy and, for the first time, concerned with how employers might view the content on their social media pages.
