Around this time last year, you may remember reading about the increased use of social media to fight crime. The vast majority of citizens believe that engaging the populace through social media can help catch criminals, and about half believe social media has the potential to prevent crimes from occurring in the first place.

This would have been quite interesting to Rolando Lozano, who was arrested just last Sunday in Rosenburg, Texas, not 10 minutes after posting a taunt to the Rosenburg Police Department’s Facebook page.

This wonderful bit of hubris was Lozano’s knee-jerk reaction to seeing his picture on the department’s Facebook page after his brother Damian was arrested for burglary, a crime which Rolando was also a suspect for. According to the police, it took them about five minutes to figure out where Rolando was and detain him. Check out the video about the arrest:

This story, along with many more just like it appearing every day, helps substantiate just how advantageous social media can be to apprehending and indicting criminals.
