Twitter has recently been experimenting with extra functionality, specifically, a way to extend the platform into something more consumer-focused.  Engadget reported a few weeks ago about a mysterious “buy” button that appeared on a few tweets.  Now, some concrete information has surfaced about the function.  Twitter has announced that in the upcoming days and weeks users will start seeing the buy button embedded in more and more tweets on the mobile app, from music tracks to t-shirts, Burberry to Home Depot.

Once tapped, the button brings up an option to enter your payment info, or select info that was previously entered and saved.

Commercially, this seems like a useful and logical next step for Twitter, but there has already been some raised hackles amongst some users, at the new directions the platform has been taking.

So, would you buy stuff off of Twitter?
