Facebook’s addition of reactions has evoked, well, reactions. While the added ability to love, laugh, wow, bemoan, and glower at a post certainly offers more alternatives than the deficient “like” button, these six emotions hardly encapsulate the varied sentiments of Facebook’s users.
While Facebook may only offer six default reactions, there are new browser extensions for Firefox and Google Chrome that enable you to swap out the bland Facebook reactions for more interesting reactions. Dubbed Reaction Packs, these alternative reactions were created by Rodney Folz, a non-affiliate of Facebook, to allow Facebook users to switch the default reactions for other packs, or even submit their own packs.
As of right now, you can plaster your friend’s posts with some of the many facial expressions of Donald Trump, up the 90’s nostalgia level with Pokémon reactions, and even Homura Did Nothing Wrong reactions (reportedly from Madoka Magica). But don’t worry: if none of these manage to fill your reaction needs, a few other packs have been published as well, including the most sought after pack of all: the reactions of Justin Trudeau, the Prime Minister of Canada.
Of course, we are very grateful to Facebook for giving us the default reactions options in the first place. But, as the Colophon on Reaction Packs so aptly states, “Facebook’s Reactions were created, of course, by Facebook…but probably wouldn’t have happened without Slack’s emoji responses (:poop:).” Thank goodness for Slack’s inspiration.
What kind of reactions does Reactions Packs elicit from you? Whether you are going to catch ‘em all with the Pokémon pack, Trump your friend’s posts, or let loose the Soot Sprites, be sure you take full advantage of reactions to let your “friends” know how you really feel.
