With the anticipation rising and the fans flocking, HBO is seriously amping up its social media angle.

As the fifth season of the extremely popular “Game of Thrones” gets ready to premiere, some lucky die-hards in San Francisco will get an early premiere screening of the first episode on the 23rd of March. For the rest of the world, April 12th is the chosen date for HBO’s premiere airing.

For those who are too far from the West Coast to attend the SF premiere, you don’t have to be completely left out of the action: the events in San Francisco will be live-streamed exclusively on GoT’s Facebook page, similar to last year’s season premiere. The event is being hosted by Mara Raphael and Veronica Belmont of HlN’s “The Daily Share,” and will be streamed on Facebook from 9-10pm. Following the conclusion of the live stream, HBO has also promised a “never-before-seen behind-the-scenes video,” which is rumored to have footage from the upcoming season.

In addition, fans will also have a chance to ask the Game of Thrones starts questions either via Facebook (Facebook.com/GameofThrones) or through Instagram (@GameofThrones). The “best” questions will then be selected for cast members to answer when on the red carpet.

Just in case all that Facebook activity is not enough, HBO is also planning to have “screens along the carpet [that will feature] a Game of Thrones Facebook ‘Year in Review’ showcasing the most resonant content from the show’s Facebook page from 2014 to the present along with best-in-class Game of Thrones Instagram and Facebook postings from fans.”

With social media marketing and engagement being so lucrative nowadays, it is not hard to understand why HBO is going hard core with their social media angle.
