In some form or fashion, we all may be guilty of mindlessly sticking with at least one poor password. Why? While coming up with strong passwords is not a challenging task in and of itself, the difficulty arises in trying to remember them. After all, what good is a password if you are unable to access the content you are trying to protect?

Google’s new “Good To Know” campaign promotes password protection, including tips to generate high-quality passwords so that privacy is protected on all of your accounts and for online transations.

Aside from the standard secure password characteristics: Length, complexity, variation and variety, Google also suggests getting a bit more creative:

One idea you can try is to choose a line from your favorite song, film or play, like “To be or  not to be: That is the question.” Then use numbers, symbols and mixed-case letters to  recreate it: “2bon2bT1tq” is a password with quadrillions of variations. The more unusual  the phrase you choose the better!

This tactic could help to create and maintain several dynamic passwords that are meaningful to only you, and therefore easier to remember.

When it comes to online information, strong passwords are key to securing your data, and a strong, memorable phrase can go a long way in helping lock down your online presence.  So take a second glace at the passwords that you use to protect highly sensitive data today. Are you doing enough?
