What were the hottest Google search terms for 2011? Looks like Apple products stole the show (even one product that never materialized)…

On Google Zeitgeist’s newly-released list of Top 10 most searched items, three Apple subjects were represented, as deceased cofounder Steve Jobs, the iPad 2 and a never-released iPhone 5 (whoops!) appeared on the list.

Other most-searched terms? This year certainly marked an interest in new technology and social networking, as Google + took second place, with interactive video game Battlefield 3 coming in fifth. Non-technology-related searches included suspected child-killer Casey Anthony, singer Adele and the tsunami that rocked Japan earlier this year.

You may be wondering about the number 1 search query of 2011. Prepare to be surprised…

Amateur teen singer turned internet superstar Rebecca Black turned out to be the most searched-for item this year, just narrowly beating out Google on its own list.

In addition to the Top 10 most searched items, Google has simultaneously released its list of fastest-rising consumer electronics. Proving that 2011 marked a clear interest in handheld mobile devices. Amazon’s Kindle Fire took the #1 spot, with Apple iPhone 4s and T-Mobile’s Sidekick4g close behind. HP’s Touchpad and the SPB Shell 3D app for Android rounded out the top 5.
