Joking aside, consider the following example of Derek.

Would you hire this person? Would this person be able to contribute to your company in any valuable way?

He probably wouldn’t cut it at OPUSfidelis. Like you, we work in the info sphere. The clear conduction of information is our stock and trade, and how can you clearly conduct information with phrasing like, “Within seeking employment?”

We wish we didn’t have to be so harsh. But we do. As world-famous writer and marketing magnate David Kerpin points out, “If you want to be taken seriously by your manager, colleagues, potential employers, clients and prospects, you must become a better writer.” For better or worse, your writing is an extension of you, and it’s the only extension that most people will see.

Do you recognize the need to improve in your writing, but are unsure how best to go about it? Well, Mr. Kerpin has a few points, chief among them:

1. Read, for goodness sake. If you write on the economy, read The Economist. If you’re in the field of cyber security, read CIO.com. If you are a Brony, read Equestria Daily (also seriously consider your course in life, bro). The point is that you cannot write well on your field or your hobbies unless you read good writing on your field and hobbies.

2. Practice. You’ll never be a good professional writer if you never edit your resume, and your book will never be published if you never actually sit down and write it. Are you unsure of how to update a resume?  Get help. Are you afraid to write the novel you’ve always dreamed of? Well, many people are, including the author of this blog entry. Which is why there are events like National Novel Writing Month to help authors get over their initial gut reactions.

3. Edit by reading your work aloud. Reading aloud helps you to avoid situations like this:

Enough said.

In summation: writing is the tool by which we who make a living in the info sphere conduct our business. If you are uncomfortable writing, you will never be comfortable in this business until you make the effort to get there!
