Working in social media, we're always looking for new apps to jazz up photos and videos. Especially those that we consider all-in-one apps: sharp photos, unique filters and frames, video capability, social sharability. And SmugMug's Camera Awesome definitely hits the mark.

As of today, on Camera Awesome's 1st birthday, it has been downloaded 13 million times, “awesomizing” and sharing over 250 million photos. Those numbers actually beat out Instagram's first year on the market.

SmugMug has 300 different artistic effects, presets, filters and frames to choose from, and those who take photo quality seriously will appreciate the composition overlays and focus/exposure settings. One feature we love is the ability to turn on a slow burst or fast burst for active shots. And unlike Instagram, Camera Awesome lets you take and edit video clips as well. The best part? Yep, it's free (at least for basic features — which includes a lot).
