One of the major complaints about Google Glass, if one can really claim to have major complaints about Earth bending technology not expected at the consumer level until 2030 at the earliest, is that it can not be a platform for augmented reality apps.

Augmented reality requires sensors, so if you want a giant green arrow to hover over your head directing you where to go, you need a censor capable of telling the device where your head is in relation to your vehicle and destination. And since Google has not yet listed any of these sensors, everyone assumed that the sensors did not exist.

Until Lance Nanek tried to update an app for the Glass and the device spat out a full list of available sensors instead.

Now Google still does not list these sensors in the official Glass API. But if the sensors are there, apps will come. Add in the fact that the consumer version of this product still isn’t ready, and that the API will be updated to include these sensors once the consumer version launches, and this will be a very, very powerful tool.

We’re looking forward to it.
