Have you ever wished you could manage your U.S. mail as simply, conveniently and tidily as your email inbox? Outbox is banking on the fact that you’re just one of millions who feel the same way, and they were founded to grant you your wish.

With operations in two major metropolitan U.S. cities—Austin, TX and San Francisco, CA—the service is gaining steam and poised to revolutionize how the nation gets its snail mail.

For a $5 monthly fee, Outbox’s “unpostmen” will collect your mail three times per week. That mail is then processed the same day (opened, scanned and uploaded), and then you’re notified via email that you can review the documents online using your iPhone, iPad and/or desktop.

“Basically, the user signs up and within about 30 seconds, we make them paperless — all their postal mail, paper correspondence now comes in an app, on the iPhone, iPad or desktop. As a result, the user has a painless paperless experience,” Outbox co-founder Will Davis recently told Alice Truong of DVICE. Davis and his co-founder, fellow Harvard Business School classmate Evan Baehr, launched the company with the goal of giving old-fashioned snail mail the ultimate upgrade.

The app sports a beautiful layout and strong design features that allow the user to file letters in folders, unsubscribe from junk mail or request physical copies of select mail. But Outbox’s dedication to quality goes beyond the web interface. Their processing facilities use custom-built imaging machines that provide a 3D-like experience when viewing the mail to make the experience more personal and life-like.

And if you’re wondering about the security risks with this type of service, have no fear because they’ve got that covered as well. Outbox has implemented stringent security measures for every step of the process, including using 256-bit AES encryption on scanned mail and background checks for the unpostmen that are stricter than those used for postal service workers. Plus any mail that is not requested is shredded and recycled after 60 days.

Outbox has succeeded in fundamentally changing how we interact with our mail, and has brought the postal service into the 21st century.  It delivers a high-quality experience with low risk and low cost, so now all you have to do is sign up and start de-cluttering your life.
